Ventureprise Inc. is a non-profit organization affiliated with UNC Charlotte that serves as a venture development organization for the university and the Charlotte region. Its programs primarily target innovation-driven entrepreneurs, university researchers, and university students interested in entrepreneurship.
Ventureprise organizes the annual Charlotte Venture Challenge business competition, supports technology commercialization through customer discovery as a National Science Foundation I-Corps Site, and operates incubators for regional innovation-driven entrepreneurs and for UNC Charlotte students. UNC Charlotte resources and a process for research commercialization are shown in this diagram. The Office of Technology Transfer, the SBTDC, and Ventureprise provide a continuum of relevant services.
Ventureprise manages the National Science Foundation I-Corps Site at UNC Charlotte. This evidence-based entrepreneurship and customer discovery focused program is open to qualified UNC Charlotte researchers. Cohorts are offered several times annually. I-Corps is designed to both accelerate commercialization progress and to increase the commercialization understanding of faculty and students. UNC Charlotte is the first I-Corps Site in the Carolinas.
UNC Charlotte students seeking entrepreneurial experiences and guidance can participate in multiple programs that are summarized at entrepreneurship.uncc.edu. A focal point for students is the 49er Foundry student business incubator operated by Ventureprise in the PORTAL building.
Innovation-driven entrepreneurs from metro Charlotte and the University are eligible to participate in the innovation and incubation center that Ventureprise operates in the PORTAL building. Services are summarized in the adjacent diagram.
Students (undergraduate and graduate) and emerging entrepreneurs from the Carolinas and adjacent states compete annually in the Charlotte Venture Challenge (www.charlotteventurechallenge.com) business competition organized by UNC Charlotte and Ventureprise.
